About Chef Lei
Chef Lei’s cuisine is influenced by her culinary studies and her Mexican/Chinese heritage. She has a passion for the culinary arts field which started at a very young age. She was raised in Mexico where her Chinese mom, who grew up in her parents’ Chinese restaurant, loves to cook and bake. And her dad, who comes from a very traditional Mexican family, loves to gather the extended family at restaurants offering excellent food and wines. And so, Chef Lei went off to college and obtained her professional degree in Gastronomy at the Instituto Culinario de Mexico in Monterrey. She loves to experience the transformation of typical ingredients that occurs while cooking. She utilizes many typical ingredients to discover new flavors not commonly found in restaurants. This eventually became the concept for the fusion cuisine offered at O’Lei Restaurant & Bar.
Chef Lei’s youthful appearance hides a wealth of culinary knowledge and experience. Prior to opening O’Lei, she worked for three years as Chef and General Manager at the prestigious “Chef Herrera” and “Fonda San Francisco” both owned by Chef Adrian Herrera in Monterrey, Mexico. She was also Chef and General Manager for two years at “5 Sens” a French restaurant also in Monterrey. And in addition to 4.5 years of culinary studies, she accumulated over 1500 internship hours at restaurants in Mexico (Monterrey and San Luis Potosi), Buenos Aires, Argentina, and in a winery in Casa Blanca, Chile.
